https://ojs.ptmjb.com/index.php/JESCS/article/view/129

In today’s world, the ability to compose sentences that adhere with the Standard American English has been a concern in many academic institutions. Despite the effort of helping students, problems still arise as congruent with the findings of Seli, et al (2021) where students show confusion in differentiating a noun phrase from an adjective phrase. Using corpus linguistics, this study attempted to analyse the morphosyntactic features of the randomly selected First Year BS Agriculture students’ written compositions. Data was collected from the readily-available outputs in Purposive Communication during their writing topic. As main research frameworks, the study employed Yule’s (2010) Morphological Analysis and Morley’s (2006) Syntactic Analysis in order to gather the necessary data. Regarding the syntactic features, the analysis revealed that verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions deviate the most from Standard American English. Meanwhile, in the morphological analysis, these types of errors were seen in the writings of the students: singular/plural nouns and pronouns, articles, conjunctions, and using other parts of speech. Based on these deviations, work plan for an extension activity may be designed and implemented to address issues. In addition, the locale of the current study, participants have only one English subject making; thus, writing as a separate subject should be included in the General Education curriculum.

Rodolfo P. https://ojs.ptmjb.com/index.php/JESCS/article/view/36

This paper examines the intrinsic relationship between education and society, emphasizing education's role as a foundational force in individual development and societal organization. The study aims to conceptualize education beyond the narrow framework of literacy, focusing instead on its broader sociological implications—particularly its capacity to cultivate moral values, civic responsibility, and social cohesion. Employing a qualitative, document-based research methodology, the study draws upon classical and contemporary philosophical perspectives, including those of Mahatma Gandhi and Aristotle, to elucidate the dynamic interplay between the individual, the community, and educational structures. The analysis highlights that education begins within the family unit, where fundamental human values such as empathy, compassion, and cooperation are first transmitted. As formal education expands this foundation, individuals become better equipped to engage constructively with increasingly complex social institutions—from the family and village to the state and global society. The study also outlines how these interconnected social layers evolve, underscoring the necessity of education in sustaining and advancing collective human life. In conclusion, education emerges not merely as a process of intellectual acquisition but as a transformative social force that shapes ethical individuals and cohesive communities. To ensure long-term societal well-being, it is imperative that educational systems integrate cognitive, emotional, and ethical dimensions, thereby enabling individuals to function as conscientious members of a global society.
Gayatri SunkadMajid WajdiNorhayati Mohd YusofQingHao Wu

https://ojs.ptmjb.com/index.php/JESCS/article/view/132

This study explores the eco-critical discourse analysis of eco-friendly language used in the 2024 captions posted by WWF-Philippines on Facebook. It aims to examine how ecolinguistic features such as metaphors, narratives, persuasive language, and intertextuality are employed to promote environmental awareness and sustainability. Through a qualitative descriptive approach and using criterion sampling, 38 selected captions were analysed to categorize ecological discourse as eco-beneficial, eco-ambivalent, or eco-destructive. The study also investigates how these discourses reflect the WWF-Philippines’ ecosophy, emphasizing interconnectedness, care for living beings, and environmental justice. Results reveal that metaphors and persuasive language are the most prominent features used to inspire environmental consciousness. Most captions conveyed eco-beneficial discourse, encouraging collective responsibility, emotional engagement, and positive environmental actions. Findings highlight the importance of strategic language use in fostering environmental advocacy on digital platforms. The study contributes to the growing field of ecolinguistics by providing insights into the role of language in shaping ecological awareness and promoting sustainable behaviours through social media communication. This study shows how language can be a powerful tool for promoting social media action and raising environmental awareness.
Jhoan Cristine R. FernandoRodolfo P. Dizon Jr

https://ojs.ptmjb.com/index.php/JESCS/article/view/134

In secondary education environments, student performance outcomes depend much on good classroom management. The relationship between several classroom management techniques and their observable impacts on academic performance, engagement, and socioemotional development among teenage students is investigated in this work. Studies of the present literature show that well-organized management strategies—especially those stressing clear standards, consistent routines, and good teacher-student relationships—correlate considerably with better academic performance across subject areas. Furthermore indicated by the studies are learning environments where students feel less anxious, more motivated, and more in control thanks to effective management strategies. Particularly secondary schools using focused classroom management training courses for teachers note notable increases in attendance rates, standardized exam results, and drop in disciplinary events. These findings underline the vital role of classroom management as not only a tool for behavioral control, but as a fundamental pedagogical framework that directly effects educational outcomes and student achievement in secondary education situations.
Usharani KhuntiaPrakash Kumar Sahoo

https://ojs.ptmjb.com/index.php/JESCS/article/view/133

In an asynchronous setting, people inevitably switch languages, which is a process known as linguistic code-switching (LCS). The researcher analyzed code-switching found in the Facebook page WE THE LOKAL, which frequently uses code-switching between Kapampangan and the English language in its video captions. This study analyzed code-switching between the languages mentioned above, which tends to categorize and discuss the types and the integration of functions and reasons for code-switching. In total, 44 video captions were analyzed and categorized using the framework, all the video captions were selected following the criteria of the study. In addition, the categorization of the corpus is not limited to only one type and reason, thus, multiple variations in one video caption were expected. The result of the study found that intra-sentential switching is the most common type used on the page. Also, to address different audiences, habitual expression, to show identity with the group, and to attract attention are the reasons categorized under the phatic function. Each function categorizes reasons. The implications revealed cultural and linguistic contexts, including identity constructions, colonialism, the history of cultural symbols of Kapampangan, pop cultures, expressing belonging and cultural values, and language as a living entity.
Allan P. https://ojs.ptmjb.com/index.php/JESCS/article/view/59

This study explores the impact of photography and videography as hobbies on individuals' well-being, creativity, and personal growth. It investigates how these art forms contribute to skill development, self-expression, and social engagement, and examines the perceived benefits and challenges associated with practicing these hobbies. A qualitative approach is used, incorporating in-depth interviews with both amateur and professional photographers and videographers. Thematic analysis is employed to identify and analyse the patterns and themes within the interview data, providing a deeper understanding of the participants' experiences. Thematic analysis is conducted in a structured process. This includes initial familiarization with interview transcripts, generation of codes, identification of recurring themes, refinement of those themes, and the development of a comprehensive narrative. This process ensures that key insights relating to well-being, creativity, and personal growth are captured. The study concludes that photography and videography play a transformative role in enhancing well-being and mental health by offering stress relief and increasing life satisfaction. These hobbies also encourage creativity, self-expression, and skill development. Furthermore, they foster personal growth by boosting confidence, self-esteem, and social connections. Although challenges such as financial constraints and time commitments exist, the overall impact of these activities is overwhelmingly positive, contributing significantly to personal development and community involvement.
I Kadek Widhi AgastyaCokorda Gede Putra YudistiraKasiani KasianiM.
